Twenty thousand men have died at Austerlitz and Andrei was though to be one of them. Thus, Marshal Kutuzov has written to Prince Bolkonsky to inform him about his son’s death. However Maria has still hope that her brother is alive and hasn’t tell his wife (Lisa) yet. Plus, she is afraid to tell her because Lisa’ s pregnancy is at an advanced stage and she is rather delicate. Her father is as awful as ever (God I really dislike that  misogynistic man). He has absolutely no interest in Maria and her feelings and I won’t even comment on how much he does not care about his son’s wife. He tortures Maria, mistreats her and blaims her for everything. He was really sad for Andrei’s death but that is no excuse to treat his daughter in this way.  I do admire Maria’s patience with him, but I admit that I find really hard to understand it. How can she possibly love that selfish, arrogand man who only cares about himself and his big, fat opinions is beyond me. In that way she does remind me of sweet Sonya . I mean all that virtue, patience and sweetness, but I think she is a little stupid. Furthermore, Sonya is far more sweet beautiful and perceptive.
